Getting a Whiter Smile at Home

Hello, friends! Today I want to share with you all an amazing product I’ve been using for the past couple of months. Growing up and even into my adult years, the color of my teeth has always been an insecurity of mine. I see friends or coworkers with brighter and whiter teeth than mine and instantly feel insecure about the color of my own, especially my canines. I’ve never tried whitening treatments before because 1) as a full-time graduate school student, I don’t really have the money to spend $$$$ on professional whitening and 2) I’ve never heard good things about the more affordable options in stores. They’re either not good for sensitive teeth/gums (which I have) or the results aren’t up to standards.

That’s why I practically JUMPED at the chance to work with Smile Brilliant when they reached out to me. Not only were they so incredibly easy to work with, they were informative, kind, and made sure I had all the help I could need throughout this process.

For the past couple of months I’ve been using their at-home whitening kit, which is under $200 (um, HOW amazing is that price?!), which essentially gives you professional grade whitening in the comfort of your own home. After you answer some questions about your dental history, they send you a kit which provides you with everything you need to create your own personal teeth molds, which you then send off to them so they can create teeth whitening trays tailored specifically to your teeth! I received my whitening trays soon after and began my journey to a whiter and brighter smile.

You can choose to whiten your teeth from anywhere between 30 minutes to up to 3 hours and they can provide you with desensitizing gel if you have sensitive teeth/gums, which I thought was great considering that’s something that always put me off of in-store whitening options. You can also go about your daily life activities while whitening. Given I’m a student I was normally doing homework or getting ready for bed while my teeth whitened. I generally chose to whiten my teeth for about an hour each night before bed and I instantly saw results. After several uses the results started to sustain themselves and I saw a huge difference between what my smile looked like before and what it looked like after.

I could not have asked for a better company to work with or a better product to use. I 100% feel more confident in my smile now and would recommend this product to anyone. If you all have any questions that weren’t discussed in this post, feel free to comment below or you can DM me on instagram.

House Plant Collection

Happy Sunday everyone! If you’ve been over on my instagram recently, you’ll know that I’ve bought myself some house plants. I’ve been wanting house plants for a while, but 1) had no idea where to begin and 2) was terrified of killing them all considering I’ve never cared for a house plant before. However, after watching Jenna Marbles’ video on her house plant collection, I became inspired and decided to take the leap and buy myself some house plants

Now, something to consider, I did do a small amount of research before buying my plants. I made sure I bought plants that were both beginner friendly and safe for my cat. I currently have four house plants, which is more than enough for me right now, and I am LOVING watching them grow and seeing how they react to different types of care. I’ll name the plants that I have and talk a bit about what caring for each of them is like.

  • Silver Inch Plant (a.k.a. Wandering Jew)- this one’s name is Matilda and was actually given to me by my mom. She propagated her own Silver Inch plant and gave it to me. I have always loved this plant in my family home and thought it was beautiful (and actually, if you’ve followed me on here for a while, it’s featured in some of my blog photos). This one is easy to care for, in my opinion, and doesn’t need much attention. I have it sitting on my window sill getting medium direct sunlight.
  • Fittonia/Nerve Plant– this one’s name is Steve and he’s been the most fickle of the plants I have. It’s a very bushy plant that sits low to the soil so I’ve lost a few leaves due to them not getting enough sunlight and have had to adjust the watering with this one, but overall it’s growing beautifully. It’s easy to tell when this guy needs water because the leaves will go limp and soft whereas they’re supposed to be kind of coarse and rigid. I initially picked this one because I love the veins on the leaves and it’s such a pretty plant to look at. I also have this one sitting in the same window sill.
  • Variegated Peperomia– this one’s name is Pepito and, I know I shouldn’t have favorites, but this one is my favorite. He’s absolutely beautiful, sprouts out new little baby leaves all the time, and is SO super easy to care for. I just give him water when the soil is looking dry and it seems to work perfectly fine. This one is sitting in the same window sill as the other two.
  • Snake Plant (a.k.a. Mother-In-Law’s Tongue)- this one doesn’t have a name yet and was a rescue plant from my mom. She had it in her office and it wasn’t doing well because she gets ZERO sunlight. I have it sitting on the entertainment center in my living room next to our patio door. This area gets very low sunlight and the snake plant seems to be thriving right here. It looks so much healthier and is standing up straight like it should be now. Because it is in a lower light area, I tend to water it less often than the others. This plant is also very easy to care for as long as it has some sort of sunlight.

If you’re looking into getting into caring for house plants and don’t know where to start, these are some great beginner plants! I also got this book from my local Barnes & Noble and it’s chock full of information. It really helped me at the beginning to better understand the different plants I had and their individual needs. Comment below your houseplants! I’ll definitely be looking into expanding my plant family one day.

Books I’ve Read Over the Past 6 Months

Hello friends! This week I’m here to recommend to you all some books that I have read and absolutely loved within the past 6 months. I won’t be describing the books too much because I don’t want to give anything away, but you all will just have to trust me when I say they were really great books!

  • What Alice Forgot- This book was captivating, romantic, and pulled at your heartstrings the whole way through. This is a book that I would buy and read over and over again.
  • My Husband’s Wife– This one is a suspenseful book and kept me enthralled throughout the whole thing. The plot continued to thicken with every chapter, but it wasn’t complicated to follow.
  • The Silent Sister– This is another suspense, but the story line is completely different from the other. Again, I was completely drawn in by this book and the ending was something I would have never saw coming.
  • Me Before You- I never went to see the movie of this book when it came out (which is the way I prefer it to be) and I finally read it. It was a heart wrenching book, in the best way possible. I kept convincing myself that the ending couldn’t possibly be that obvious and something crazy was going to happen, but nope. It ripped my heart right out and now I must see the movie.
  • Other Words for Love- This is a book I’ve had for a long time, but decided to revisit this past fall. It’s a YA romance book, but has some real adult themes throughout it that doesn’t make it feel childish. I fell in love with the characters all over again and was still saddened by the ending because I became emotionally invested.

If you’re looking for a good book to read that are along the lines of romance, drama, and suspense then look no further. I would read all of these books again, that’s how good they are. If you all have any book recommendations that are along these genres then definitely comment them down below! I’m always looking for new books to read.

Recent Beauty Buys

Happy Wednesday, everyone! I hope everyone’s week is going well so far. Mine has been jam-packed with random errands and finishing up my last week of my 8-week classes. Over the weekend I made a stop into Ulta because I hadn’t bought any new makeup products for myself in a while. There have been a few things on my list now that I’ve been wanting to pick up and try out. So, without further ado, here are the items I recently bought.

It Cosmetics CC Cream

  • I  bought this because I don’t wear a lot of makeup on a day-to-day basis and I hate the feeling of liquid foundation on my face. I wanted something that would feel really light-weight and give me a flawless finish without making me feel like I have cake-face. Everyone I talked to recommended this product and it even says on the packaging “your skin but better.” However, I’ve tried using it twice now and it seems to do the opposite of what everyone told me! I’m not sure if maybe I’m just applying too much or doing something else wrong, but I’m going to keep working with it.

Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer

  • Again, this is another fan favorite that everyone recommended to me when I said I was looking for an inexpensive, but good quality bronzer. The warmer months are starting to come up now and I wanted bronzer that would give my face a subtle glow since I don’t tan on my face very much. I’ve only tested this once so far and it went on beautifully, I’m very impressed so far.

Ulta Beauty Gradual Tanning Lotion

  • As mentioned above, the warm weather is starting to peak it’s way through and I don’t know about the rest of you, but ya girl is seriously pale! I will start tanning outside (still using SPF of course) once it gets around 70 degrees, but for now it’s up to fake tanning products to get the job done. I don’t want to look unnaturally tan so I’ve just gone with a tanning lotion for now. I just put it on for the first time today so we’ll see in a few days if I start seeing a natural glow like the bottle says.

Ulta Beauty blenders

  • This last thing is something so simple, that I am very late to the game on, but I’ve always just used makeup brushes. I bought a regular sized blender and then the mini size as well. I mainly wanted them to better blend my under-eye concealer and really get into the corner of my eye. My brush was always way too big for that area and I felt like it picked up more makeup than it blended into my skin. So far I am lovingggg using these and I don’t know why I didn’t do this sooner.

Those are all of the things I picked up recently, and I’m hoping to continue to use them all and see how they work with my skin. If you all have any products you’d recommend or can explain to me how to best use the CC Cream then please comment below! Have a great rest of your week!!

Lancôme Product Review

Happy Monday friends! If you follow me on Instagram then you know that recently I was gifted some Lancôme products via Influenster. I was super excited to try out these products when I got the package, especially since it had items in it that I have been wanting to add to my makeup collection. In the package I received the Fix It and Forget It Spray, the Long Time No Shine loose setting powder, and their Vitamin C serum. Since I received the package I’ve been able to use each product and decide whether I like them or not, and thought I would share my opinions with you all!

Fix It and Forget It Spray

  • I had been wanting a setting spray for a while because I find that on my busiest days my makeup starts to move and wear off a little bit. This spray can actually be used to refresh your makeup throughout the day as well as set it! The spray gave a matte finish and left my skin feeling very soft. It definitely helped keep my makeup intact throughout the day, but upon first applying it, the spray definitely clung to any peach fuzz or hair on my face. While it’s probably not noticeable from a normal distance away, I could definitely see it when I looked in the mirror. Overall though I think I’d rate it a 7 out of 10 and would recommend it if you have oily or combination type skin. If you have normal or dry skin this may not be the best product for you since it leaves a very matte finish.

Long Time No Shine Loose Setting Powder

  • This is my favorite product BY FAR. I will definitely repurchase this when I finally run out of it (which will probably take forever since it’s a huge amount of product). I only use this to set my under eye area rather than my whole face, but my guess is that it would be great on your whole face too. Again, it leaves a matte finish, which I like for my combination skin type, and it brightens up my under eye area SO MUCH! I have chronic dark lines under my eyes and am always looking for makeup that helps cover and brighten those lines, this powder is perfect for that! I now use this in my everyday makeup routine, 10/10 would recommend.

Vitamin C Serum

  • This was my least favorite product out of all of them and to be honest, I didn’t really like it at all. While, I’m so grateful to have been gifted all of these products, I did not find that this one worked well for me. It’s supposed to brighten your skin and leave it radiant feeling, but I didn’t notice a difference in the brightness of my skin and it actually left my skin feeling very dry. It also had a strange, chemical smell to it which put me off as well. I personally wouldn’t recommend this product at all, unfortunately.

I want to give a big thank you to Influenster and Lancôme for sending me these products to try out and recommend to you all! I’m honestly really pleased that I enjoyed the majority of them, especially the discovery of the loose setting powder! I hope you all find this post helpful and if you’ve tried the Vitamin C Serum let me know your thoughts by leaving a comment.

My Goals for 2019

Hello friends! Long time, no post. haha If you read my life update from September, you would know that I was having problems with my job and figuring out what to do with my life. Well, since then I have changed jobs (so so happy now) and I’m in fully into my grad school program. Those two things have made such a difference in my life and I feel like everything is in order now. That said, I have made three goals for this year that I really want to stick to now that I’m in a better place professionally and mentally.

  • Goal #1: Travel More- I really want to travel to more places, even if it’s just in my own country. My goal is to plan three trips to places I’ve never been before and I’d love for one of those place to be outside of the United States. I feel like this is the time for me to be doing this stuff because I don’t have much tying me down and my student loans don’t drop until I graduate from grad school haha
  • Goal #2: Do More Outdoor Activities- I want to spend more time doing outdoor activities because it’s a great way to stay healthy and I honestly just crave being outside rather than stuck inside staring at my laptop or phone. I want to go hiking, kayaking, swimming, and rock climbing, just to name a few
  • Goal #3: Be More Intentional- I’ve heard a couple of other people say that this is their goal and I’m hopping right on that train. I love the idea of this because I feel like a lot of us live this lifestyle of just going through the motions and doing things just because we feel like we have to do them, but this year I want to really put thought into the things that I do on a day-to-day basis

I like the goals that I’ve chosen because I feel like they’re going to make me a happier person and they’re attainable. If you all have made any goals for 2019, I’d love to hear them so be sure to comment them below!

Updated Bedroom Decor

Hello friends! I’m back again with another update, but this time it’s related to my bedroom. If you all have been following along for a while then you’ll know I moved out of my family home and into an apartment. I wrote a blog post earlier in the summer with all of the details of my bedroom’s decor, but I’m back with even more.

Sometime around a month ago, I was sitting in my room and I just felt so unorganized! I had paperwork all over my desk and little bits here and there that had no home in my room. I also had a string of fairy lights sitting on my desk that I never put up. So, I decided it was time to take action.

I took inspiration from one of my best friends that I live with and decided to get cubby storage from Target. This would be where I organize all of my stuff and sort of create an ends space for my bed (which was just open to begin with). I ended up buying 5 storage cubes from Walmart, 4 to put in the cubby storage unit and then an extra one for under my desk where I could store larger items that wouldn’t fit in the cubbies.

I then went to TJ Maxx and bought some pieces to display some of my things without it looking cluttered or disorganized. The mauvey-pink basket and white “eye-shadow-palette-holder” (not sure what it’s actually called lol) were both from TJ Maxx. The accordion file was actually from Target as well and hold all of my life admin paperwork.

I also bought some more command strips and put up my fairy lights around my room which instantly made me feel more at home. The lights are the same ones from my previous apartment decor blog posts and made my room feel so much more cozy.

I had set a goal of $100 to buy everything and I was able to get it all (and then some cause I picked up some groceries) for $85 which was a steal in my opinion. My room just also feels way more complete now and not so cluttered. I really love organization and interiors so if you all ever have any questions about either of those things then feel free to reach out, instagram would probably be the best way and you can find all my links on my About Me page. Everything that I can find online will have links to it, unfortunately the TJ Maxx items may not be available online, but definitely check in-store! Have a great week you all!
